Link's Armorial Banner from the original comic in the instruction booklet - The Legend of Zelda 1986

 

When the shield is put on a flag, in heraldic terms this is called an armorial banner or heraldic flag.  In the Legend of Zelda the shield that Link carries varies.  In the original instruction booklet it is a red cross on gold-orange.  In the game it is a slightly yellow cross on brown. 

Flag of the American Institute of Heraldry

The flag for the American Institute of Heraldry is based upon the Heraldic combination of old English Heraldic designs with an American Flag architecture. The flag has nine lions which seem to make up 13 stripes six yellow and seven red spaces.  In the canton, or upper hoist quadrant, are several white Fleur de Lis on a background of blue.

A Colourful Proposal for the Coat of Arms for King Charles III

Wales is included in the Coat of Arms for King Charles III, right now who is reigning as the Prince of Wales.  Since Wales was the original overlooked member of the UK, who gets no representation in the flag.  When King Chuck becomes king, maybe, just maybe Wales will get some respects. 

Additionally the it makes the flag more memorable and colourful in the age of the rainbow.
